Food, Concerts, Art…
BESA
Mediterranean food with incredible service. We ordered several appetizers and grabbed some drinks. Everything was uniquely perfect. The Lionsmane Mushroom Kabob was spicy and chewy with just enough crunch. The Roasted Eggplant Toast, simple and well flavored, nothing to write home about, but generally a nice palate cleanser. Grilled Artichoke was magnificent, once again good texture and flavor from the risotto pairing. The star was the salmon which had a nice crust on the outside, moist on the inside, and flaky. The Trilece cake was also pretty nuts, definitely recommend getting desert here. We left to brave a chilling 10 minute walk to a nearby speakeasy.
Bad Luck Bar
It seems like every time we go to Detroit, there is another amazing lowkey speakeasy that happens to have great drinks and an incredible atmosphere. We waited about 20 minutes to get a table but it was worth it. With only enough room for 20 or so people in the entire place, it was intimate and fun. It was a place that made me want to show up on a Tuesday night, grab a few cocktails, and write for hours by myself as I watch people come and go.1
Palace Concert—Terminal 5
Back in New York for the week (if you are reading this, we miss you Bisou) and on Wednesday evening we went out to see Palace at Terminal 5. Terminal 5 has a cool warehouse atmosphere, we saw Mt Joy here back in 2021, and it was magical. Palace was great a nice mix of exactly what I look for in a Wednesday night concert, chill alternative style music, some songs to sing along to, and good atmosphere.
Talkin’ Tacos
So we were walking around the Washington Heights getting a feel for the area and we stumbled upon Talkin’ Tacos—this area is also nicknamed, or maybe legit named Little Dominican Republic… if you didn’t know a few weeks ago we stayed at a resort in the DR and I think, just based on these tacos, that we have already had more authentic Dominican food in the 3 days we have been in this neighborhood, than the entire time we were at the resort—shade engaged. Anyway, these tacos were gassssolina… I went then to write this newsletter and looking into it… this taco place is a 4.9/5 stars review… low key I think it is a chain but IDGAF Talkin’ Tacos is Michelinned.
Thank You
Sorry I haven’y posted that writing yet, it will be out on Monday or maybe Tuesday I think, I just want to do a few more things to it before sharing it with everyone. It is the first time I am posting any real writing under my own name and I want to make sure it’s somewhat polished, mostly though I do want to start posting and releasing this writing I do so that it can exist somewhere.
thanks for reading
derek :)
My heartburn—still battling, back on the Pepto and Prilosec OTC combo—returned that evening after 2 Gin focused drinks and a few sips of top shelf Don Julio… I’m going to stay away from alcohol for a while.
My cousin owns bad luck!! ❤️🔥 glad you went and had a good time
