finding your inner child is one blind box away
zero thought all vibes; sharing taste one newsletter at a time
in this newsletter I cover some of the ways that I am passing off the existential dread of turning th***y this past weekend.
the party
First off, I want to thank all of my friends who were able to join, but also all my friends who were unable to join, but reached out, and also anyone who didn’t reach out, but that I know, becuase I really honestly have mixed opinions on birthdays, but I know I love all my friends and even love people who might not be my friends, but that I just know becuase thats really what I feel I guess… weird… anyway we ordered Jets pizza and took some peoples Jets virginity, we played beer ball (my favorite drinking game) and we listened to music and hung out. We all got home by midnight and had a grand time, thank you noah for sharing your backyard and for letting Bisou run around all day. Last but not remotely least in any way, thanks to Sabrina for planning everything and for the wonderful birthday gift of many tasty drink, if you know me… I love a beverage, a few on the list were: Watermelon Sparkling LMNT, Red Bull, Grape Fierce Gatorade, Orange Cream Waterloo, and a variety of Liquid Death. I also got to try out the Cream Soda Poppi courtesy of Jacob Harris!
blind boxes
Over the past few weeks Sabrina’s 15-year-old sister has been staying with us and she catalyzed an already growing impulse to purchase blind boxes. Sabrina and I follow a couple on YouTube who has really inspired us in a number of ways. When we first started watching blind boxes seemed so out there and dumb, but the more we watched the more appealing they seemed and then all the sudden I kind of wanted an excuse to buy one. I don’t really love the sonny angels, they are a bit… not my vibe, but the smiski’s are exactly what I would consider my wheelhouse in terms of vibes.
So over the last few weeks I purchased a few smiski’s and experienced the rush of opening the box and getting a surprise. We also ended up on Canal where fakes were being sold and I impulse bought a few, which felt like being 7 in meijer and purchasing Yu-Gi-Oh cards as my mom checked out. I ended up getting quite the surprise…
dumplings
if there is a food that brings out a youthful zest it is soup dumplings and in support of Sophia’s desire to traverse everywhere but places within walking distance or a 30 minute train from our place in crown heights we ended up in flushing on Sunday crawling around various asian food stores… we of course got boba and ramen but the main interest for me was getting some soup dumplings, these were unfortunately not vegetarian, but they were quite good!
nikes
I don’t know why, but I have not purchased a pair of Nike shoes for myself since before college, I guess my taste switched and I never really loved the fit of nike shoes, but with the rise of y2k and dad fasion I found a pair of P6000’s that absolutely ate and after going into the nike store in Fort Green and having the employee say “the only place you can find those in store is in the Bronx… the reason I know that is because I want a pair too…” I decided to hop online and purchase them from the website, sizing half a size up to make sure they didn’t squeeze my not incredibly wide, but definitely not narrow feet.
YouTube
If you aren’t an avid reader (of this stack) or don’t like to click on links maybe you haven’t seen, but I have been working on creating YouTube videos, I am trying to do one a week, but sometimes there are longer gaps… I realized I take a lot of photos and videos, but they just get stuck on my phone. Sabrina has made some great videos of trips we have taken and they are a great way to utilize the footage from these events in our lives and turn them into something a little more meaningful and enjoyable to watch. It also happens to be a way that I can share a bit of my life with my friends and family.
Thanks
Thanks again for reading, I am finishing this up about 5 hours before it will be in your mailbox, so I am getting a bit sleepy. Tonight was productive, I made a YouTube video and the music to go with it and then started working on this newsletter. I have some plans for additional newsletter ideas coming out soon so make sure to subscribe and please send these on to your friends and family! I recently had subscribers either unsubscribe or delete their accounts SAD, but it is what it is.
thanks again, everyone, for making me not feel so bad about being an old head… though they do say 30 is the new 20!
