Cha Cha Real Smooth
This movie checks the boxes. There is something I can’t get enough of about a film about people just trying to figure it out. The main character Andrew reminds me of all the best people I know, goofy, leading with their heart, honest, and full of passion—the plot takes some time to develop, which I like, and over the course of the movie you start to root for characters, hate characters, want to be characters, want to change the storyline, but the plot doesn’t waver, it’s honest and realistic. I encourage you to watch it and if you already have let me know your thoughts! VIBE RATING: 9.7/10
A Day In Eastown
For those local to Grand Rapids Zivio is a local modern European/Mediterranean restaurant that is often our go-to when we are in Eastown. Sabrina and I can’t get enough of their lapinja bread (always grab some to go). They have Guinness on tap and some top-notch sangria. If you have some time I would recommend heading down to Pickwick Tavern, on Cherry Street, and grabbing a fine pint of Killians Red… they are cash only, but the atmosphere is just something you must experience. Also, to make this section even more manic and disorganized I am here to tell you that Dry January is great and all, but January is a depressing month, and staying in your home by yourself afraid to go out into the world because you don’t want to be pressured to drink (speaking from experience) adds insult to injury. Make a dumb rule for the month if that helps, mine has been, I only drink when I go out, and I only drink Guinness, so I have had 4 Guinnesses and I don’t regret a single one of them!
Oranges
Deadass oranges have been bangin’ this winter. Fuck Cuties. Fuck Mandarines. Fuck Clementines. They have all done me dirty too many times. Sometimes they are too sweet or stringy, but ORANGES… they haven’t caught me off guard all winter. Sometimes I peel them with my hands so the citrus mist goes all over the kitchen and other times I cut them into little sections and eat them off the rind. Go get some oranges.
My Year of Rest & Relaxation—Closing Thoughts
Overall, this is one of the first books I have finished in a long time and part of that is thanks to my new Kindle and the other part is due to reading David Foster Wallace. It was fun writing that took you around and about the life of a mentally ill woman in pre-9/11 New York City. In general, there isn’t much to the plot, there is a little hook right at the end that makes you think, but over all much like this newsletter, the book was vibes with real life and neurotic pharmaceutical fiction sprinkled in. Don’t take that as a negative though, I think for the most part vibes is still good writing and worth reading. I guess if this tells you anything about me it is that if I am reading a book there is probably at least one mentally ill character in it (don’t read too much into that).
MyFitnessPal
I recently downloaded MyFitnessPal and did an auto sign-in with an old email. I’ve been looking to be a little more disciplined and focus on eating more protein, something that I always struggle with. I went to check my weight goal and realized that the account my app signed into was from 2012 my sophomore year of high school. The goal weight was 110 lbs and that was not a weight loss goal but rather a weight gain goal of 6 lbs. It reminded me that back in the day all I wanted was to be the size I am now and for that I am extremely grateful.
The Playlist
We are quickly finishing out the first month of the year which feels a bit ridiculous to think about, 11 more of these (months) to go… Time is going to fast, and yet here we are, on a Friday morning, reading a newsletter, and you are about to share it with one of your friends just like you did coronavirus back in 2020, although by sharing this you help a minimally employed friend grow their newsletter, and by sharing covid you just got added to a long list of names potentially labeled in some database as a "super spreader” … shameless plug…
thx
